In the artist's own words: “The subject is camel-horse-like mysterious creature known as the llama. Curiously enough, my first encounter with a llama was the night before on my plate in a La Paz restaurant, but this picture represents the first time I had ever seen one. Everything in this picture hearkens back to an older, simpler time in the Andes."
